Self-Reliant Diver Distinctive Speciality Course

The purpose of the PADI Self-Reliant Diver speciality course is to recognise and accept the role of the buddy system and its contributions to diver safety, while identifying and developing self-reliance and independence while diving. There are two reasons for an experienced diver to take the Self-Reliant Diver course. One to develop the planning skills in carrying out dives without a partner when preferred or necessary. Secondly to your sharpen diving skills self-reliance, making you a stronger partner in a dive team.

WHAT IS IN THIS COURSE?

This course covers when diving alone may be applicable and the need to prepare for diving alone in those situations. Including dive planning, life support system readiness, adaptive training, equipment and responsibility. This course is an introduction to self-reliant diving which helps student divers develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to rely on themselves first, whether or not they are diving with a partner. The course covers the value and application of the buddy system, furthermore the philosophy of and motivation for diving without a partner, the potential risks of diving alone and how to manage those risks. The course also goes into the value of equipment redundancy, what back-up equipment is needed and dive planning and gas management. This course involves a pre-assessment dive and three open water dives.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH MY CERTIFICATION?

Be a self-reliant diver!

REQUIREMENTS

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organisation
Have a minimum of 100 logged dives
Be 18 years of age or older
Successfully complete a dive skills assessment by a PADI Self-Reliant Diver Speciality Instructor

PRICE INCLUDES

Hire of basic equipment needed, instructor, land transport to dive sites and certification card, DAN insurance

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

Bring a towel, water, swimming suit, and to change to dry after diving. Many times we drive to the divesites, no wet clothes allowed in the vehicles.
