What’s Involved in the PADI IDC + EFRI Course?
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the foundation of the PADI Instructor Course in Malta. The course is divided into:
✔ PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) Course – Learn instructional techniques and knowledge development.
✔ PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course – Master classroom, confined water, and open water teaching.
The Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) Course qualifies you to teach CPR and first aid, a crucial requirement for PADI Rescue Diver courses.
During the IDC, you will:
✔ Complete self-study Knowledge Reviews before the course begins.
✔ Deliver at least two confined water teaching presentations.
✔ Present two knowledge development sessions.
✔ Conduct an open water teaching presentation integrating two skills.
✔ Demonstrate all 20 dive skills to professional-level standards.
✔ Complete an 800-meter snorkel swim without stopping.
✔ Pass a five-part dive theory exam with at least 75% in each section.
✔ Attend 14 curriculum presentations to refine your teaching techniques.
At the end of the program, you’ll be fully prepared for the PADI Instructor Exam (IE).
What Can You Do with Your PADI Instructor Certification?
After completing the IDC and passing the Instructor Exam (IE), you will be certified to:
✔ Teach PADI Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster courses.
✔ Conduct Discover Scuba Diving and other introductory dive experiences.

Course Prerequisites
To enrol in the PADI Instructor Course Malta (IDC), you must:
✔ Be a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) or a PADI Assistant Instructor (AI).
✔ Be at least 18 years old.
✔ Have been a certified diver for at least six months.
✔ Have at least 60 logged dives (100 dives required for teaching status).
✔ Have experience in night, deep, and navigation diving.
✔ Hold a CPR and First Aid certification within the last 24 months (EFR course available).
✔ Provide a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
